School Minibus Driver – North Dorset

About the role

Dorset Community Transport (DCT) is seeking reliable drivers to provide home‑to‑school and community transport across North Dorset. The role involves operating a minibus on regular routes serving mainstream and SEN schools, as well as occasional community outings.

Key responsibilities

• Collect passengers from their homes or designated pick‑up points and deliver them safely to schools, shopping centres or other destinations.
• Assist passengers with boarding, mobility aids and luggage, ensuring all safety restraints are correctly used.
• Carry out vehicle checks, record mileage, complete paperwork and handle any cash taken during a shift.
• Communicate with the operations team via email and attend scheduled meetings and training sessions.

Required profile

• Full UK driving licence (category D1 or D1 101) with no more than six penalty points and no drink‑driving convictions.
• Minimum age 21, own transport to reach the depot and reliable mobile phone with daily email access.
• Physically able to assist passengers, including wheelchair users, and capable of manual handling tasks.
• Strong customer‑care attitude, punctuality and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £13.09 plus accrued holiday pay, with a minimum guaranteed 16 hours per week.
• Flexible split‑shift pattern during term time (approx. 7:00‑9:30 am and 2:15‑4:45 pm) and opportunity for overtime.
• Six‑month probation, statutory sick pay and eligibility for DCT’s additional sick‑pay scheme.
• Pro‑rated 5.6 weeks paid holiday and full training including the MiDAS driver awareness scheme.
