School Sports Coach – SEND & SEMH Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic School Sports Coach to work within specialist SEND and SEMH provisions in Blackburn. The role is term‑time only, full‑time (Monday‑Friday, 8:30 am‑3:30 pm) and focuses on using sport to engage and support young people with additional needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and support sports, PE and physical activities for students with SEND and SEMH needs.
• Provide 1:1 and small‑group coaching to encourage teamwork, confidence and positive behaviour.
• Promote emotional regulation strategies through sport.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils and support their development both inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist teachers and support staff in creating a safe, structured learning environment.
• Collaborate with teaching, pastoral and therapy teams to meet individual pupil needs.
• Follow safeguarding and school policies at all times.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• At least two years of relevant employment within the last four years, with references available.
• Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.
• Resilient, patient and adaptable approach.
