Science SEN Teaching Assistant – GCSE Support

About the role

Reed Education is recruiting for a specialist SEN secondary school to join the Science department as a Teaching Assistant. The role starts in September 2026 and is term‑time only, providing targeted support to Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils studying GCSE Science.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers during Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons.
• Deliver small‑group and one‑to‑one interventions to raise attainment in GCSE Science.
• Prepare practical experiments and manage classroom resources.
• Support pupils with SEND and SEMH, encouraging engagement and attendance.
• Monitor progress, identify learning gaps and promote positive behaviour.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of GCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
• Experience working with secondary‑aged students.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Effective behaviour management and safeguarding awareness.

Required skills

• Ability to explain GCSE‑level science concepts clearly.
• Competence in supporting diverse learning needs, including SEND and SEMH.
