Scientific Procurement Manager

About the role

Our client, a leading biospecimen provider, is seeking a Scientific Procurement Manager to lead a small sourcing team in Burgess Hill. The role combines scientific knowledge with procurement expertise to ensure timely delivery of human and animal tissue samples for research.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of three sourcing specialists, managing workloads and progression plans.
• Oversee procurement of biospecimens for client projects, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Optimize inventory levels, set reorder points, forecast demand and reduce lead times.
• Maintain and grow relationships with internal and external suppliers, negotiating contracts and pricing.
• Design and implement process improvements to increase procurement efficiency.
• Act as escalation point for complex sourcing challenges.

Required profile

• BSc degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Proven line‑management experience.
• Solid background in procurement, preferably for technical or scientific items.
• Understanding of life‑science or biological tissue handling.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Eligibility to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.

Required skills

• Sage X3 (desired).
• SAP (desired).

What we offer

• Competitive salary £37,000‑£40,000 per year, dependent on experience.
