Second Chef – Care Home (North West England)

About the role

Join Barchester Healthcare as a Second Chef in a care‑home setting, delivering hotel‑standard meals while enjoying a balanced work schedule. You will support the Head Chef in creating nutritious, seasonal menus tailored to residents' preferences.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
• Assist in menu development and adapt dishes to resident needs.
• Prepare high‑quality meals using fresh, seasonal produce.
• Maintain a warm, efficient kitchen environment.
• Work within budgetary constraints and conduct regular audits.
• Control stock levels and ensure accurate ordering.

Required profile

• Personable, warm approach with genuine interest in resident wellbeing.
• City & Guilds, NVQ, SVQ or equivalent culinary qualification.
• Good understanding of nutrition and fresh seasonal food.
• Confidence engaging with residents to design appealing menus.
• Solid knowledge of HACCP standards.
