Second Chef – Care Home (St. Michaels)

About the role

Join Barchester Healthcare as a Second Chef in a residential care setting, delivering hotel‑standard meals while enjoying a balanced work schedule. You will support the Head Chef in creating nutritious, seasonal menus tailored to residents' preferences.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
• Assist in menu development, focusing on fresh, seasonal produce.
• Prepare high‑quality, wholesome dishes that meet HACCP standards.
• Maintain a warm, efficient kitchen environment and engage with residents to personalise meals.
• Control stock, conduct regular audits, and work within budgetary limits.

Required profile

• Qualified chef with City & Guilds, NVQ, SVQ or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of nutrition and fresh seasonal food.
• Personable, warm approach with genuine interest in resident wellbeing.
• Confidence engaging residents to create appetising menus.
