Secondary Art Teacher / Art Technician – The Wirral

About the role

Academics is seeking a passionate Secondary Art Teacher or Art Technician to deliver creative lessons and manage studio facilities across secondary schools in the Wirral. The role starts in September and offers both short‑term cover and longer‑term placements.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Art & Design lessons for Key Stage 3 and 4 students.
• Prepare and organise studio materials, maintain stock and equipment such as kilns, printing presses and digital tools.
• Display student artwork and ensure the studio environment meets health and safety standards.
• Provide flexible cover across different art departments, stepping in for short‑term absences or long‑term leaves.
• Maintain a safe, inspiring and productive classroom atmosphere.

Required profile

• A degree or qualification in Fine Art, Design or a related discipline.
• UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/ECT) is highly desirable, though experienced technicians or instructors are also welcome.
• Previous experience teaching art or managing an educational art studio.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
• Ability to commute to schools throughout the Wirral.

Required skills

• Experience with kilns.
• Experience with printing presses.
• Proficiency using digital art tools.
