SEMH & Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant (Chelmsford)

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to support young people aged 8‑16 in SEMH and Alternative Provision settings. You will work in schools across Chelmsford and Harlow, helping pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, ADHD, PTSD, ASD and challenging behaviours.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with additional needs in their learning and personal development.
• Collaborate with class teachers to design and deliver engaging activities.
• Assist children in developing social skills and positive relationships.
• Maintain a safe, supportive and nurturing classroom environment.
• Contribute to the overall wellbeing and progress of each student each day.

Required profile

• A genuine interest in supporting young people, especially those with mental health challenges.
• Patience, empathy and resilience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Willingness to undergo full training.

Required skills

• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Ability to build rapport with children and staff.
• Basic organisational and time‑management skills.
