SEMH Learning Mentor – September Start (Full‑time, Temp‑to‑Perm)

About the role
Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor to join an inspirational Alternative Provision in Newcastle. The role begins in September 2026 and focuses on supporting pupils aged 11‑16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with learning and manage their behaviour.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils, assisting them in regulating emotions and behaviour during lessons and around the school.
- Collaborate closely with class teachers and other staff to understand individual learning styles and tailor support accordingly.
- Develop and implement strategies that promote positive engagement and academic progress.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and interventions.
Required profile
- Relevant teaching, learning, or childcare qualification (desirable).
- Experience working with children in UK schools, particularly those with SEMH or SEND needs.
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Resilient, proactive, and positive attitude.
- Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Two professional references covering the last two years.
Required skills
- Understanding of SEMH challenges and effective support strategies.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
