SEMH Learning Mentor – Start September 2026

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a passionate Learning Mentor to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in an inspirational Alternative Provision in Newcastle. The role begins in September 2026 and offers the chance to build lasting, positive relationships while helping young people progress academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage emotions and behaviour during lessons and around school.
• Collaborate with class teachers and support staff to understand individual learning styles and adapt interventions accordingly.
• Support pupils aged 11‑16 (or 11‑18) who have been excluded from mainstream schools, promoting engagement and progress.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour, contributing to personalised learning plans.

Required profile

• Experience working with children in UK schools, particularly with SEMH or SEND pupils.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Resilient, proactive and positive attitude.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
• Two professional references covering the last two years.

Required skills

• Understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Basic qualification in supporting teaching and learning or childcare (desired).

What we offer

• Daily rate between £95‑£110.
• Full‑time role (Monday‑Friday) until July 2027 with the possibility of permanent employment.
