About the role
We are seeking a compassionate SEMH Mentor to join a specialist school in Reading. The role involves supporting pupils who experience deregulated behaviours and need additional emotional and behavioural assistance to engage fully with their education.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students throughout the school day.
- Help pupils regulate emotions and behaviours, promoting positive engagement in learning.
- Build trusting relationships with young people, acting as a role model and advocate.
- Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals to create a safe learning environment.
- Encourage development of social, emotional and communication skills.
Required profile
- Experience working with young people in education, youth work, care, coaching or mentoring.
- Strong relationship‑building abilities and calm, patient demeanor in challenging situations.
- Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable students and promoting consistency, empathy and positive reinforcement.
