SEMH Teacher – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) – Longsight, Manchester

About the role

We are seeking a resilient and passionate SEMH Teacher to join our well‑established Pupil Referral Unit in Longsight, Manchester. The role starts in September 2026 and offers the chance to make a genuine difference for young people facing significant barriers to education.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of SEMH pupils.
• Adapt learning materials and teaching strategies for a range of academic abilities.
• Manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management techniques.
• Build strong, professional relationships with students who have experienced trauma, exclusion or disrupted education.
• Support pupils’ emotional development, self‑regulation and engagement with learning.
• Collaborate closely with pastoral teams, teaching assistants, parents and external agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Experience working with students who have SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Resilient, patient and proactive approach.
• Commitment to supporting vulnerable young people and promoting positive educational outcomes.
