SEMH Teacher – Specialist Education Role

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join a supportive specialist education setting in Hexham. You will work with young people who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence, resilience and essential life skills.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual student needs.
- Create a calm, structured, and positive learning environment.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and support their social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
- Adapt teaching and learning to accommodate diverse abilities and needs.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, families and external professionals.
- Contribute to individual support plans and wider student development initiatives.
Required profile
- Patient, empathetic and approachable.
- Confident in managing challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
- Experience or strong passion for working with young people with SEMH needs.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students who have faced educational barriers.
- Flexible, creative and resilient under pressure.
- Committed to inclusive education and giving every young person the chance to succeed.
- Effective communicator who works well within a multidisciplinary team.
