About the role
We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Chelmsford from September 2026. The role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them engage positively with learning and achieve their potential.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Assist in managing challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
- Promote emotional regulation and positive coping strategies.
- Support learning activities and adapt resources as required.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
- Contribute to behaviour support plans and monitor progress.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or SEN (preferred but not essential).
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Ability to de‑escalate challenging situations effectively.
- Passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Team player with a proactive and flexible attitude.
