SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full‑time, September start in Guildford

About the role

We are seeking a caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Guildford area from September. You will work closely with pupils who experience anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, ASD, ADHD and other additional needs, helping them feel safe and ready to learn.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
• Assist students in accessing learning across the classroom and throughout the school.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people facing significant barriers to education.
• Support emotional regulation, wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and other specialist staff to create a nurturing environment.

Required profile

• Calm, patient and emotionally intelligent with the ability to stay composed in challenging situations.
• Strong communicator and supportive team player, able to build positive relationships with children and young people.
• Resilient, proactive and adaptable, willing to get involved across the school.
• Experience in education, SEN, care, youth work or similar environments is desirable.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a car (essential for the rural location).
