SEMH Teaching Assistant – Immediate & September Starts

About the role

Academics is recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to work within specialist provisions and SEN schools across East Kent. The role supports pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and is available for immediate start or from September 2026. You will work alongside teachers, pastoral teams and therapeutic professionals to create a stable, supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils throughout the school day.
• Build positive relationships with students who have experienced barriers to learning.
• Promote engagement, confidence and emotional regulation.
• Assist with behaviour management strategies and encourage positive outcomes.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and therapeutic professionals.

Required profile

• Calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
• Confidence in managing challenging behaviour positively.
• Genuine desire to help young people succeed academically and personally.

Required skills

• No specific technical skills required.
