SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary (Bedford)

About the role

This temporary full‑time position supports primary pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in Bedford schools. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to create a safe, structured environment where every child can thrive.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build positive relationships that encourage confidence and engagement.
• Assist pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff to deliver inclusive learning experiences.
• Help maintain a safe, structured and supportive classroom atmosphere.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people who have additional needs or challenging behaviour.
• Patient, resilient and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Ability to build trust and establish positive relationships with pupils.
• Proactive, reliable and committed to supporting each child’s progress.
• Holder of an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
