SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary (Full‑time, Term‑time)

About the role

We are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11‑19 in a specialised secondary school in Northenden, Greater Manchester. The role is full‑time during term dates and focuses on delivering a calm, structured learning environment for young people with Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils in the classroom.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons.
• Promote confidence, communication and positive behaviour for pupils with additional needs.
• Encourage and motivate pupils during lessons, activities and playground time.
• Act as a reliable adult role model, supporting pupils’ social and emotional development.

Required profile

• Experience supporting or mentoring children or young people (e.g., school, youth work, coaching, volunteering).
• Patient, approachable and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
• Good literacy and numeracy (GCSE Maths & English or equivalent).
• Calm under pressure with a positive outlook and sense of humour.
• Commitment to inclusion and helping every child succeed.
