About the role
We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision school in Theale, Reading. The role involves supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them achieve academic and personal growth.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Promote positive behaviour using calm, consistent approaches.
- Deliver structured learning activities and targeted interventions.
- Assist pupils in developing independence, resilience and coping strategies.
- Monitor progress and give feedback to teachers and pastoral staff.
- Support de‑escalation and manage challenging behaviours safely.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
Required profile
- Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
- Calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with pupils.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths (minimum NVQ Level 2).
- Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
Required skills
- ICT proficiency.
