SEMH Teaching Assistant – Support Young People in Liverpool

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Liverpool. In this full‑time, term‑time position you will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive academic and personal outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build trusting relationships and promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals to create a calm, inclusive learning environment.
- Encourage pupil engagement, confidence and independence both inside and outside the classroom.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- Calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Ability to remain positive and professional in challenging situations.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Required skills
- No specific technical skills required; focus is on interpersonal and supportive abilities.
