SEMH Tutor (1:1 Support) – Thurrock

About the role

Join Ackerman Pierce Education to provide one‑to‑one support for children and young people in Thurrock who cannot access mainstream education. You will work on a term‑time basis, delivering tailored learning and emotional support across early years to KS4.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver core subjects (Maths, English, Science) or SEMH‑specific content in a 1:1 setting.
• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and maintain a therapeutic approach.
• Conduct baseline academic and emotional assessments to guide targeted interventions.
• Prepare daily and weekly progress reports and liaise with external professionals such as SALT, OT, or social workers.
• Record attendance using the provided software and support learners’ transitions to mainstream or specialist settings.

Required profile

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring children with SEND/SEMH needs.
• Background in education, youth work, or therapeutic environments.
• QTS or HLTA preferred, though two years of relevant UK experience without formal qualification is acceptable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a compassionate and dependable attitude.
