SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Sunderland

About the role

We are partnering with specialist schools and resource provisions across Sunderland to provide dedicated support for pupils with additional needs. As a SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) you will help children with SEND achieve their full potential through personalised learning and targeted interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver targeted interventions for pupils with SEND.
• Lead learning activities and small‑group sessions.
• Support pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and additional learning needs.
• Work alongside teachers and SENDCOs to plan and deliver support.
• Monitor progress, adapt strategies and promote independence and confidence.

Required profile

• HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience supporting pupils with SEND.
• Patient, nurturing approach with strong communication skills.
• Willingness to travel across Sunderland and nearby areas; a driver’s licence is beneficial but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

• Monitoring and reporting on pupil progress.
