SEN Hub Teaching Assistant – Specialist Mixed‑Ability Support

About the role

We are looking for an inspirational SEN Hub Teaching Assistant to join a high‑needs provision within a thriving academy in Blackpool. You will work in a dedicated Hub environment, supporting a small group of pupils with autism, non‑verbal communication profiles and significant cognitive delay.

Key responsibilities

• Provide group and individual scaffolding using small‑step learning tailored to each child’s cognitive level.
• Utilise non‑verbal cues, sensory triggers and alternative communication methods to engage non‑verbal learners.
• Recognise signs of sensory overload and implement calming strategies or sensory breaks.
• Deliver personal care (toileting, changing, feeding) with dignity, following individual healthcare plans.
• Collaborate with the Hub Lead to track progress beyond traditional academic milestones.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting children with autism and cognitive delay.
• Familiarity with or willingness to train in Makaton, PECS or visual timetables.
• Physical resilience and ability to stay on your feet in a high‑energy environment.
• Low‑arousal approach to behaviour, focusing on de‑escalation.
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification preferred, or substantial relevant experience.

• Pay: £95‑£110 per day (depending on experience)
