SEN Learning Support Assistant – 1:1 Autism Support (Year 2)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with autism in a welcoming primary school in Lambeth. The role involves implementing consistent autism‑support strategies and helping the child access the curriculum and school life.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 support throughout the school day, following the pupil’s EHCP.
• Apply visual supports, PECS, Makaton or other communication approaches as needed.
• Facilitate the pupil’s participation in classroom activities and wider curriculum.
• Support emotional regulation, transitions and daily routines.
• Promote independence, positive interaction and achievement of individual targets.
• Maintain clear communication with the class teacher and SENCO.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting pupils with ASD, preferably in a primary setting.
• Comfortable working on a 1:1 basis with a non‑verbal child.
• Resilient, patient and calm under pressure.
• Consistent in applying routines and support strategies.
• Strong communicator who can build a trusting relationship with the pupil and collaborate with staff.
