SEN Post-16 Teacher – Preparation for Adulthood

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Post‑16 Teacher to join a specialist learning hub in South Leeds. The role focuses on the “Preparation for Adulthood” framework, helping young adults with Education, Health and Care Plans develop independence, life‑skills and employability.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver a post‑16 curriculum centred on functional life skills, independent travel, health and community participation.
• Teach contextualised English, Maths and ICT linked to real‑world tasks such as budgeting and timetable reading.
• Organise work‑experience placements, mock interviews and community‑based learning activities.
• Lead a team of support staff, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Collaborate with local businesses and voluntary organisations to create transition pathways.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering post‑16 education for learners with complex SEN, including autism.
• Strong understanding of the Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) framework.
• Ability to manage a classroom and coordinate external partners.
• Commitment to fostering independence and confidence in young adults.

Required skills

• Functional skills teaching in English, Maths and ICT.
• Curriculum planning for life‑skills and employability.
• Community and transition facilitation.
