SEN & SEMH Cover Supervisor – Secondary School

About the role

The school is seeking a confident and resilient Cover Supervisor to deliver pre‑planned lessons for secondary‑aged pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) requirements. You will step in when the regular teacher is unavailable, ensuring continuity of learning in a supportive, structured environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise classes across a variety of subjects, following provided lesson plans and resources.
• Maintain a positive learning atmosphere and keep students engaged.
• Manage behaviour calmly and consistently, applying the school’s behaviour policies.
• Build constructive relationships with pupils, particularly those with SEN and SEMH needs.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement individual support strategies.
• Uphold school routines, health and safety standards, and safeguarding procedures.

Required profile

• Patient, approachable and confident when working with young people.
• Experience with secondary‑aged students, preferably in a cover‑supervising, teaching‑assistant or SEN/SEMH setting.
• Ability to manage a classroom independently and remain calm in challenging situations.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Resilience and a genuine interest in supporting pupils with additional needs.
