SEN Sport Teacher – Teaching Assistant & Sports Coach

About the role

This full‑time, temporary position supports pupils both in the classroom and on the sports field at a school in Custom House, East London. The role combines teaching assistant duties with the delivery of engaging sports and physical activity sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist teachers in delivering effective lessons and preparing classroom resources.
• Provide targeted learning support to individual pupils and small groups.
• Support pupils’ academic, social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Plan and deliver sports coaching, PE lessons and extracurricular activities.
• Promote teamwork, confidence and healthy lifestyles through sport.
• Prepare and maintain sports equipment and monitor pupil progress.
• Supervise pupils during break times, school trips and events.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff and parents to achieve the best outcomes for students.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children in a school environment.
• Experience as a Sports Coach, PE Coach, Teaching Assistant or similar role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enthusiastic, patient and proactive attitude.
• Ability to motivate and engage students through both learning and sport.
• Relevant sports coaching qualifications are desirable but not essential.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
