SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1)

About the role

This full‑time, 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant position supports a Reception pupil with additional learning needs in a supportive primary school in Leigh. You will work closely with the Early Years team to ensure the child enjoys an inclusive start to their education.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personalised support following the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or EHCP.
• Facilitate social and emotional development, helping the pupil interact with peers and regulate emotions.
• Use visual aids such as PECS and Now‑and‑Next boards to clarify daily routines.
• Adapt classroom instructions into sensory‑friendly, manageable activities.
• Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and external therapists to monitor progress.

Required profile

• Proven experience working with children with SEN, including autism, ADHD, or speech & language difficulties.
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
• Resilience, empathy and a genuine desire to support every child’s success.
• Eligibility for an Enhanced DBS check and legal right to work in the UK.

Required skills

• Knowledge of de‑escalation techniques.
• Experience with sensory‑based learning approaches.
• Proficiency using visual communication tools such as PECS and Now‑and‑Next boards.
