SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support for Year 8 Autism Student

About the role
Prospero Teaching is partnering with an Ofsted‑rated Outstanding secondary school to provide a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant for a Year 8 male student with severe Autism (ASD). You will work throughout the school day, helping the student access learning, regulate emotions and engage positively in the classroom environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide continuous 1:1 support during the school day.
- Implement agreed behaviour and support plans.
- Assist the student in accessing lessons and learning activities.
- Build a trusting, positive relationship with the student.
- Manage challenging situations calmly and consistently.
- Collaborate with teachers, SEN professionals and parents as required.
- Complete detailed daily reports on behaviour, progress and observations.
- Promote emotional regulation, independence and engagement.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism (ASD).
- Confidence working in a 1:1 SEN support role.
- Strong behaviour management skills.
- Resilient, adaptable and highly patient.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent written communication for report writing.
- Commitment to providing consistent support and structure.
- Passion for helping students overcome learning barriers.
