About the role
We are partnering with primary schools in the Sheldon (B26) area to recruit SEN Teaching Assistants and 1:1 Support Assistants for placements starting in September 2026. The role involves providing consistent, individual support to pupils with additional needs, helping them engage fully in classroom activities.
Key responsibilities
- Build a trusting, consistent relationship with a pupil who has additional needs.
- Adapt activities for children with Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or other learning needs.
- Use agreed strategies to encourage engagement, positive behaviour and independence.
- Share observations and progress with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
- Contribute to a calm, safe and inclusive classroom environment.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs in a school, care, nursery or community setting.
- Patience, empathy and a calm approach, with the ability to maintain clear boundaries.
- Willingness to follow individual support plans and guidance from school staff.
- Relevant qualification is desirable but not essential.
Required skills
- Makaton communication system.
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
- Team Teach approach.
- Personal care and behaviour support techniques.
