SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism Focus

About the role
We are looking for a caring and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant with a focus on autism to support young people aged 11‑19 in specialist SEN schools in Waltham Forest, East London. You will work Monday‑Friday in a classroom setting, helping students develop communication, independence and life‑skills while managing emotional and sensory needs.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group classroom support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD and non‑verbal needs.
- Implement behaviour, learning and engagement strategies aligned with each pupil’s EHCP.
- Promote life‑skills, independence and sensory regulation.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to adapt learning materials and environments.
Required profile
- Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant with an autism focus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behaviour and support emotional regulation.
- Calm, patient and resilient approach to daily classroom dynamics.
- Enhanced DBS check (Update Service preferred).
