About the role
Tradewind Recruitment is hiring a full‑time SEN Teaching Assistant for a supportive secondary school in Sunderland, starting September 2026. The role involves providing tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs, helping them access learning, build confidence and achieve academic goals.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 1‑to‑1 and small‑group support for students with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, communication and learning difficulties.
- Assist pupils in accessing lessons, developing independence and positive behaviour.
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams to implement individual support strategies.
- Promote an inclusive classroom environment and encourage student engagement.
- Provide regular feedback on student progress and wellbeing to teaching staff.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs.
- Experience in a school, college, care or support setting is desirable.
- Patient, caring and resilient attitude.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Ability to support a range of learning needs.
