SEN Teaching Assistant – Hemel Hempstead

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our specialist setting in Hemel Hempstead. The role involves working across two sites, providing one‑to‑one and small‑group support to children with special educational needs. You will collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils overcome learning barriers and build confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 and small‑group assistance to pupils, tailoring support to individual needs.
• Support pupils with learning, communication and personal development tasks.
• Assist in managing behaviour and promoting positive engagement in the classroom.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils to foster independence and confidence.
• Work alongside teachers and the wider staff team to create an inclusive learning environment.
• Contribute to a safe, structured and nurturing setting across both Hemel Hempstead sites.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with children or young people, preferably in a SEN context.
• Patient, calm and nurturing approach with strong interpersonal skills.
• Genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to two site locations.
• Willingness to develop SEN knowledge and commit to the full working hours of 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
