SEN Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join one of our specialist SEM‑MH schools in Canterbury from September. The role is full‑time and focuses on supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them engage with learning and develop positive behaviours.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group classroom support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Assist pupils in emotional regulation and implement positive behaviour strategies.
• Build trusting relationships and create a safe, structured learning environment.
• Collaborate closely with teachers and other professionals to tailor support for individual pupils.
• Support pupils in developing coping strategies and social skills.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and behaviour incidents.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour.
• Resilient, patient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Strong behaviour‑management and relationship‑building abilities.
• Available to work five days per week from September and hold an active DBS (or willing to obtain one through Academics).
• Passionate about making a positive difference to young people's lives.
• Willing to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
