SEN Teaching Assistant – Long-Term Placement

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a purpose‑built specialist school in the Boston Spa area. This full‑time, long‑term position supports pupils with complex learning needs, helping them achieve meaningful educational outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored learning support aligned with individual EHCP targets, adapting tasks to varied learning speeds and styles.
• Use alternative and augmentative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables to assist pre‑verbal and non‑verbal pupils.
• Support physical mobility, personal care routines, and guide children through sensory breaks and positive behaviour strategies.
• Collaborate closely with lead teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and healthcare staff.
• Encourage personal autonomy, social interaction during meals, and smooth transitions between activities.

Required profile

• Experience working as a teaching assistant with pupils who have severe or profound learning difficulties, autism, or SEMH needs.
• Resilience, energy, and creativity to adapt to a dynamic specialist environment.
• Commitment to delivering a highly individualised, multi‑sensory curriculum.
