SEN Teaching Assistant – Mainstream Primary School

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in a mainstream primary school in Liverpool. You will work alongside the lead teacher to create an inclusive, safe learning environment for children with autism and complex learning requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support tailored to individual pupil needs.
• Assist the teacher in delivering lesson plans and using specialised strategies.
• Promote inclusion, self‑esteem, independence and positive social interaction.
• Manage behaviour using established school techniques and encourage pupil responsibility.
• Collaborate with the SENDCo and staff to monitor, record and report pupil progress.
• Ensure pupil safety, including personal care and mobility assistance when required.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 months experience in a UK school or caring role, preferably with special education or autism.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain) and eligibility to work in the UK.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with pupils, staff and parents.
• Genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs and commitment to full‑time, term‑time work.
• Professional references from recent employers.
