SEN Teaching Assistant (Part‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a caring and adaptable Teaching Assistant to support students with special educational needs (SEN) at Mount Tamar School in Plymouth. The role is temporary and part‑time, covering short‑term absences and helping maintain a positive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers with lesson delivery, including setting up resources and materials.
• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils who need additional help.
• Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and reasonable accommodations for SEN students.
• Help manage classroom behaviour and promote inclusion.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and support professionals to ensure smooth classroom operation.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar support role (preferred but not essential).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, teachers and parents.
• Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting learners.
• Flexibility to work across different year groups and classroom settings.
• Driver’s licence and access to a car.
