SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Full‑time)

About the role

This full‑time, temporary position supports a welcoming primary school in Nelson. The SEN Teaching Assistant works closely with the class teacher and SENCO to help pupils with special educational needs access the curriculum, build confidence and thrive in the classroom.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEN.
• Implement support strategies devised with the teacher and SENCO.
• Assist pupils with learning, communication and social development.
• Promote positive behaviour and engagement throughout the school day.
• Build trusting relationships to help each child reach their potential.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN in a school, care or similar setting.
• Patient, nurturing and adaptable attitude.
• Genuine passion for helping children with additional needs.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
• Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience (desirable but not essential).

Required skills

• Understanding of SEN support strategies.
• Ability to follow safeguarding and DBS procedures.
