SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary Academy (Hackney)

About the role

We are looking for reliable SEN Teaching Assistants to join a thriving secondary academy in Hackney from September. This full‑time, temporary position offers the chance to support young people with Special Educational Needs and help them succeed academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with SEN across a range of subjects.
• Assist teachers in adapting learning materials to meet individual needs.
• Encourage participation, independence, and engagement within the classroom.
• Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and moderate learning difficulties.
• Implement individual learning plans and behaviour‑support strategies.
• Monitor progress and relay feedback to teachers and the SEN team.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs, and external professionals.
• Follow safeguarding procedures at all times.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN.
• Patient, compassionate, and supportive attitude.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Understanding of a range of SEN categories (beneficial).
• Resilience and adaptability in a busy school environment.
• Organisational skills and teamwork orientation.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
