SEN Teaching Assistant – Southampton

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a caring SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs in Southampton. You will work directly with children and young people who have autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication challenges, or social‑emotional and behavioural needs, helping them access the curriculum and build confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support during lessons, activities and school routines.
• Assist pupils with emotional regulation and implement behaviour‑support strategies.
• Adapt learning tasks and resources to meet individual SEN profiles.
• Encourage independence, engagement and confidence in learners.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to plan and deliver tailored interventions.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and follow safeguarding policies.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
• Patient, empathetic and supportive attitude.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils.
• Flexibility to respond to a variety of needs and situations.
