SEN Teaching Assistant – Southwark Secondary School

About the role

We are seeking a patient and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11‑18 in a bustling secondary school in Southwark. You will work closely with teachers and the SEND department to deliver 1:1 and small‑group assistance, helping students access the curriculum and achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide targeted support to pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH and moderate learning difficulties.
• Implement strategies set out in Individual Education Plans (EHCPs) and promote independence.
• Assist pupils in accessing lessons, encouraging positive behaviour and academic progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt resources and monitor student development.
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN in a secondary school setting.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
• Strong communication skills and confidence in managing behaviour.
• Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.

Required skills

• Knowledge of autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH.
• Understanding of EHCP implementation and small‑group teaching techniques.
