SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEMH School

About the role
Prospero Teaching is recruiting experienced Teaching Assistants to support a specialist SEMH school in Romsey, Hampshire. The role involves working closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to help pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs achieve their academic and personal goals.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils during lessons and throughout the school day.
- Remove barriers to learning and encourage active engagement.
- Promote positive behaviour, resilience and independence.
- Support pupils’ emotional, social and academic development.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teaching and pastoral teams to deliver coordinated support.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, particularly SEMH.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
- Good English, maths and ICT proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Right to work in the UK and willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS.
Required skills
- ICT skills (basic computer use).
