SEN Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEND School

About the role

Join a highly specialist SEND free school in Witham, supporting pupils aged 4‑19 with autism and complex learning needs. You will work closely with teachers and a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver personalised learning programmes that develop communication, independence and functional life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with autism, learning disabilities and communication needs.
• Assist the class teacher in delivering highly personalised learning activities.
• Encourage development of social, emotional and independence skills.
• Promote positive behaviour and engagement through structured approaches.
• Support sensory needs and adapt activities where required.
• Collaborate with therapists, teachers and support staff.
• Help maintain a safe, calm and engaging learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or SEND.
• Patient, resilient and nurturing attitude.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Desirable: experience working with autism or complex needs, knowledge of behaviour support strategies, Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
