SEN Teaching Assistant – Support Children with Autism

About the role

The school is a Good‑rated special‑educational‑needs institution caring for pupils aged 7‑19 with complex learning difficulties, including autism and speech‑language disorders. As a SEN Teaching Assistant you will work full‑time on‑site, supporting children to achieve their potential in a nurturing, pupil‑centred environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with autism, ASD, Asperger’s and other complex needs.
• Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery, classroom activities and behaviour management.
• Undertake personal care tasks when required, ensuring the dignity and safety of each pupil.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and communicate observations to the teaching team.
• Promote a calm and inclusive atmosphere, helping pupils develop social and communication skills.

Required profile

• Previous teaching assistant experience preferred, especially within SEN, but a positive attitude and passion are essential.
• Genuine interest in supporting children with autism and complex needs.
• Proactive, energetic and confident when engaging in classroom activities.
• Right to work in the UK, enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain), and two professional references.
