SEN Teaching Assistant – Support Children with Complex Needs

About the role

We are seeking compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to work in specialist SEN schools in Canterbury and surrounding areas. The role involves supporting pupils with severe and complex special educational needs on a 1:1 or small‑group basis, helping them achieve personal, educational and life‑skill goals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist pupils with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions and sensory impairments.
• Deliver personalised learning activities aligned with each pupil’s EHCP, focusing on communication, independence and life skills.
• Provide personal care when required, maintaining dignity and respect.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils, families and the wider school community.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Care Support Worker or in a specialist SEN setting.
• Demonstrated patience, emotional resilience and adaptability.
• Willingness to assist with personal care and medical needs.
• Right to work in the UK and ability to obtain an enhanced DBS (child‑only) and, if needed, an overseas police check.

Required skills

• Experience supporting children with SLD, PMLD, autism or complex needs.
