SEN Teaching Assistant – Support Pupils with Complex Needs

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist special‑educational‑needs school in Chigwell. You will support pupils aged 4‑19 with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and associated social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support tailored to individual abilities.
• Assist with personalised learning programmes, care plans and sensory‑based activities.
• Support communication, engagement and emotional regulation.
• Collaborate with teachers and therapists to maintain a safe, structured, inclusive environment.
• Build positive relationships that promote confidence, independence and wellbeing.

Required profile

• A genuine interest in supporting children with complex and profound learning needs.
• Patient, calm and proactive approach.
• Experience with SLD and/or PMLD is desirable but not essential.
• Experience of manual handling, personal care or sensory support is preferred.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Previous experience working with SEN pupils is desirable.

• Competitive daily rate of £90‑£120, dependent on experience.
