SEN Teaching Assistant – Support SEMH Pupils

About the role
We are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Clacton‑on‑Sea. You will work closely with teachers and the SEND team to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Assist children in developing emotional regulation, confidence and positive coping strategies.
- Build trusting relationships that enable pupils to feel secure and valued.
- Encourage positive behaviour using proven behaviour‑management techniques.
- Collaborate with teachers, the SEND team and parents to ensure consistent support.
- Celebrate progress and help pupils achieve individual learning goals.
Required profile
- Calm, patient and resilient with a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
- Understanding that behaviour often signals unmet needs.
- Ability to work well within a supportive school team.
Required skills
- Positive behaviour management strategies.
- Effective communication and relationship‑building with pupils.
