SEN Teaching Assistant – West Leeds

About the role
This full‑time, temporary position supports two young pupils (Reception and Year 1) with special educational needs in a West Leeds primary school. You will work closely with teachers and the resourced provision to ensure the children can access the curriculum and feel safe in the classroom.
Key responsibilities
- Support pupils to access the curriculum and participate in group activities.
- Read aloud, listen to reading, and tell stories to develop literacy.
- Identify and manage triggers to prevent pupils from needing to leave the class.
- Assist teachers with planning differentiated activities and completing records.
- Help manage classroom behaviour and supervise group work.
- Provide calm support to pupils who are upset or have had accidents.
Required profile
- Patient, empathetic and able to build strong relationships with children.
- Minimum two years experience in a primary school setting.
- Experience working with children who display challenging behaviour.
- Good understanding of autism and other special needs.
- Initiative‑driven and able to collaborate with staff and adults.
