SEN Tutor / Qualified Teacher – Southend-on-Sea

About the role

New Chapter Tuition is seeking experienced SEN Tutors or qualified teachers to provide one‑to‑one tuition for learners aged 5‑25 in Southend‑on‑Sea. The role focuses on supporting children and young people with autism, ADHD, complex learning needs and related barriers, helping them improve communication, confidence and academic outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver personalised 1:1 tuition and educational support sessions.
• Adapt learning activities to each learner’s communication style, interests and learning profile.
• Support academic, social, communication and personal development targets.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners, families and professionals.
• Use strategies to promote engagement, emotional regulation and participation.
• Provide English and Maths support where appropriate.
• Complete session reports and progress updates after each session.
• Monitor progress and contribute to agreed targets and outcomes.
• Collaborate with families, schools, local authorities and other professionals.
• Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.

Required profile

• Qualified teacher or experienced SEN tutor with a passion for supporting learners with autism, ADHD and complex SEND needs.
• Experience working with learners who have speech, language, communication, sensory processing or SEMH challenges.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with learners, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to safeguarding and accurate record‑keeping.

• PAYE contract with an hourly rate of £25‑£35 (equivalent to £30‑£42 when planning time is included).
