About the role
This senior leadership position is based in a well‑regarded independent preparatory school in North London. The successful candidate will combine responsibility for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision with the duties of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, helping to create an inclusive, supportive environment for every pupil.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the school’s SEND provision, ensuring high‑quality support for pupils with additional needs.
- Manage Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), annual reviews and maintain strong relationships with external agencies.
- Provide teachers with inclusive classroom strategies and targeted interventions.
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, overseeing safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Lead mental health and wellbeing initiatives across the school community.
- Build strong relationships with pupils, families and staff to achieve the best outcomes.
Required profile
- Significant experience as a SENCO in an independent or comparable school setting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage EHCPs and work effectively with external partners.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a commitment to pastoral care.
